What is FORSA

FORSA was set up several years ago and has become an integral part of the Rydon school community. Together, we have raised thousands of pounds which have been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children’s educational experience and the school’s facilities.

FORSA also exists to provide closer links between home and school and works hard to bring staff, parents and friends together socially in support of the school.

Not all of our events are run as fundraisers, we are often involved in providing refreshments and assistance at school social events, concerts and parents’ consultation evenings.

All parents, guardians and carers with children at the school are automatically members of FORSA, and all members of the school community are encouraged to get involved in our activities.

Charitable Status

FORSA has recently become a registered charity. We are governed by our constitution which includes the following aims:

To advance the education of pupils in the school in particular by:

  • Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school;
  • Engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.

A full copy of our constitution can be found in the FORSA section of the Rydon Moodle.

Working together

In its 70 year history Rydon has seen a number of Parent Teacher Associations. Several years ago Helen Sachania brought together and formed the current Friends of Rydon School Association.

Staff are very supportive and we have good relationships with the Rydon School Governors, Steyning Grammar School and all of the Storrington Area Rural Schools (STARS)

We have, over time, developed strong links with the local community and are always well supported by both residents and businesses, for we which we are very grateful. Many local businesses generously donate prizes for our fundraising raffles. We always welcome offers of sponsorship or support so please contact us if you can help.

Committee Meetings

The committee meets every half term at the School. The Annual General Meeting is held at the School shortly after the financial year end which is on 31 August

How we raise money

Like most “Friends” Associations, the majority of our funds are raised through running events. We hold two main fundraising events every year: the Summer Fête and Fireworks Night.

Every three years Rydon holds a sponsored walk. Not only does this raise significant funds for the school, but our charitable status has enabled FORSA to claim Gift Aid on monies donated to the school via sponsorship. This has also been very beneficial.

School discos are held six times a year and are extremely popular. We also raise money through the sale of second hand uniform and the Bag2school recycling scheme.

How you can help

FORSA depends on the enthusiasm and goodwill of parents at the school who want to support their children’s education. We are always grateful for any assistance whether it be baking a cake for a stall; donating unwanted toys, books or gifts for tombola prizes; collecting unwanted clothing/fabric for the Bag2school scheme; or buying raffle tickets for the Grand Raffle. Every little helps as the saying goes!

It’s easy to support FORSA by registering with the above organisation and donating with lots of online retailers (like Amazon and M&S). Simply visit the website, search for “Friends of Rydon School Association” and follow the instructions.

Join us

If you want to get more involved, you can join the band of willing helpers who come along to our events to lend a hand. Helpers at the disco are also most welcome.

If you have a bit more time, you can come along to our meetings to see what we get up to first hand, or maybe consider taking a committee post.
